National Poetry Month Library Contest

Are you a poet, and do you know it? April is National Poetry Month and we’re celebrating with a fun contest! Submit a poem by April 21 in one of two divisions: Grades 7-12 or the 18-plus category. Submission boxes can be found at our three locations starting April 2. Winners will receive a prize and their poem will be published on the Whitby Public Library website.

The details:

  • One poem submission per person.
  • Your submission must be your own original work.
  • Please include your name, grade or age range, and phone number on your submission.
  • By submitting your poem, you are consenting to have your work potentially posted on the Library website.
  • Poems will be judged by a panel of staff to determine our winners.

What to remember:

  • Your submission needs to be dropped off in-person and placed in our submission boxes.
  • Don’t forget to indicate what category you’re in: Grades 7-12 or the 18-plus category.
  • It’s important to include your name, grade or age range, and phone number on your submission.
  • Keep it real. Make sure it’s your own work.
  • Have fun!
