The Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) is formed in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).  The JHSC is composed of worker (non-managerial employees) and employer members (managerial employees) who are selected to represent the interests and perspectives of each group in the workplace. The main purpose of the JHSC is to ensure that health and safety concerns are identified and addressed, through hazard recognition, assessment, and evaluation, and presenting recommendations.  Furthermore, the committee must be kept informed of health and safety developments in the workplace by the employer to help ensure communication and a shared understanding of safe work practices.
