One person, one act, one seed—together we can make a difference.

It seems like such a small thing. The simple act of tapping a seed out of a packet and pushing it around slowly in your palm. Once you marvel at the sheer potential of what you’re holding, next comes the step of gently planting the seed into the soil. A good pat on top of the dirt is usually hard to resist. Finally, it’s time to add a little water, and then comes the hard part: you wait expectantly to see what happens. It appears so effortless and yet, it's climate action personified.

The Library’s Seed Share program starting on March 1, 2024, is a wonderful way to join others in a community effort to help the planet. We hear and see the constant headlines calling for leadership to fight global warming. We’re told everyone has a part to play.  It can be overwhelming and hard to know where to start.

One person, one act, one seed can go much farther than you think. The magic comes from your neighbour doing the same thing. Or perhaps it’s the library user standing beside you at the seed share station, looking excitedly through the selection.

Shelve with Seeds.

There’s an inspiring full circle element to the library seed share program. We encourage everyone to select, sow, and share. The share part is key. Help yourself to the offerings, plant your picks wherever works best for you and come harvest time, collect a sampling of seeds, and donate them back for others to enjoy.

Seed sharing is a growing movement. It allows any one of us to support sustainable gardening practices, and it’s an amazing way to celebrate nature.

The rhythm of the seasons requires us to slow down and rest during the colder months. But once spring arrives, the longer days and warmth inspires us to get outside and turn our faces towards the sun. For some of us, it also means getting ready to dig our hands in the dirt. We welcome you to join our Seed Share program and celebrate the impact of one person, one act, one seed. Together, we can make a difference.
