New Library Service: A Place for Newcomers to Find Help

It can be overwhelming arriving somewhere completely unfamiliar. When newcomers move into Durham Region, it can be difficult to know where to find resources and information to help become a member of the community. That’s why we’ve launched a NEW service at the Library to help bridge the gap.

We’ve partnered with Community Development Council Durham (CDCD) to become the new satellite space for the Orientation Settlement Program.  Multiple languages are available. Newcomers can simply book an appointment to see a settlement worker on site at the Central Library.

Services being offered include:

  • Immigration applications and documents
  • Other Government applications
  • Medical Supports including Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) for uninsured persons.
  • Housing Supports
  • Community Connections
  • Education
  • Employment
  • Education and Training
  • English Classes
