Volunteering with the Visiting Library Service

Our Visiting Library Service provides library materials to Whitby residents who cannot visit the Library due to long-term illness, disability, or age. Items are selected by staff and delivered by a volunteer on a regular schedule. This service is available year-long pending volunteer availability.

Time Commitment 

  • 3–4 hours per month (flexible schedule)

Volunteer Qualifications 

  • Age 18+ 
  • Possess a means of delivery transportation  
  • Ability to lift and carry bags of library materials  
  • Reliable and trustworthy 
  • Good interpersonal skills  
  • Provide the Library with a current Vulnerable Sector check 

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Pick up library materials when assigned 
  • Deliver library materials to assigned customer(s) 
  • Return patrons’ completed materials and Visiting Library Service bag(s) 
  • Advise staff of any changes or requests made by the patron
  • Respect confidentiality
